Danfo

Danfo is a typeface by Afrotype commissioned by Google Fonts. We were tapped by Seyi Olusanya, creative director at Afrotype to design a type specimen site for Danfo.

For the site and its elements, we took inspiration from and abstracted several motifs usually associated with different forms of travel.

Danfo was inspired by the vinyl stickers on Lagos' Danfo buses. These stickers frequently have custom, hand-cut letters created by master artisans. Despite the prevalence of this culture, little documentation exists on the creation and history of these stickers. With the team at Afrotype, we built an editorial section for the website.
